The Galerie Doria is presenting a certain Art de vivre (Art of living) through the recreation of three period rooms, a new exhibition of major works by Pierre Chareau, with furniture and light fittings from the Maison de Verre (Glass house), from the Grand Hotel of Tours, from Villeflix, and from the homes of Doctor and Mrs Jean Dalsace, Mrs Hélène Bernheim, Mr Edmond Fleg, Mr Marcel Kapferer, Mr Daniel Dreyfus, etc.

Considered to be one of the greatest artists of modernity in the realm of decorative arts of the interbellum period and of the UAM, Union of Modern Artists, Pierre Chareau combined a vocabulary of simplified and elegant forms with the quality of noble materials and beautiful finishes. The perfect balance between modern materials, such as blackened hammered metal or glass slabs, and traditional materials, precious sycamore, mahogany or rosewood, allowed him to meet “his first concern: the creation of harmony between furniture and interior architecture”. With this blending, that he achieved with supreme virtuosity, he is the embodiment of French modernity.
